About UsPlanning to set up the Leixlip Community Youth Band was inspired by the young musicians playing music led by Music Director Maeve Townsend. Former Principal Geraldine Convery volunteered to help Maeve set up a new Community Band for all young musicians aged 8 to 18 years. With Maeve, Geraldine and Jennifer Fitzpatrick (parent of three wonderful young musicians), the LCYB was set up in September 2018. The Band's first performance took place in Leixlip Library on Culture Night 2018!The LCYB has grown and developed since the first Rehearsal on Monday 10th September '18 in the Leixlip Community Youth Centre. Our Performances have included the Annual Leixlip International Party in St Mary's GAA, the Annual Leixlip Community Open Day in the Leixlip Community Youth Centre, Three Schools Community Carol Service in St Charles Borromeo Church, Soundsport Event in the Tallaght Basketball Arena. As the name suggests, our Colour Guard group adds colour to our LCYB, also promoting a new emotional and expressive quality to the band's performance.‘Teamwork is a necessity when you’re part of a band and no one gets left behind! Our Band members, including our Colour Guards, work hard together and develop a camaraderie unlike any other......a feeling of trust, friendship, joy, laughter, a sense of well being and self confidence!!’Learning to play music brings a wide array of beneficial traits that extend beyond the music room! When a musician learns to read, play and perform music, they gain mental, cognitive and emotional health benefits that will last throughout their lifetime.
